Greetings!
Winter is here. Even though the temperature has dropped, technology continues to speed upwards. We're especially excited about the Classroom of the Future initiative in Pennsylvania. Children of the Playstation Generation are discovering more and more through interactivity and dynamic problem solving. Now more than ever, technological breakthroughs are being made to prepare this age of students for the future.
Our Systems Specialists, Engineers, and Technicians have all been learning about the newest innovations. For almost fifteen years, SAGE has been installing and servicing systems in Pennsylvania schools. We understand next-generation technology and work with educators to fit it into an instructive environment.
We have trained and experienced personnel working hard in all fields: security, phone, and sound systems; auditorium and theatre production projects; and nurse call communications. Read below on some of the latest solutions we've found.
Every quarter, this newsletter will keep you up-to-date on the industry news that affects you. If you want to learn more, or need any information about technology other than what we've mentioned, please send us an e-mail. Feel free to call us at (717) 653-6641. We appreciate your feedback, and we're here to help.
Sincerely,
Ryan Cutting
Systems Specialist

'Coursecasting'
now a higher-education staple
Recent advancements in user technology have turned podcasting into an increasingly viable educational tool. Even at smaller, less technologically savvy universities, it is now easy for many professors to record their lectures with minimal frustration. Audio (or even video) feeds can then be freely placed on major distributive sites (including iTunes and Youtube) for quick and painless student consumption. Staff at UC Berkeley and more than thirty other colleges report such significant success that they are collaborating to create free podcasting software.Read more about: Coursecasting
Changes
for e-Rate Funding in 2008
In an e-Rate training session held in Florida last fall, program executive Mel Blackwell described some of the changes that will be made in 2008. Blackwell promised a better PIN system and a 90% shift from offline to online paperwork. Streamlining features (like reduced signature requirements, automated reminders and notifications, and prepopulated forms) will cut down application time and difficulty. Minor clerical errors will be easily corrected. Above all, helpful information will be provided whenever a request is denied so that applicants can effectively correct their cases and appeal.Watch: e-Rate 2008 video

Bosch Security Systems has been selected by CBS Studio Center to provide video surveillance technology for the facility’s security operations. CBS Studio Center is using Bosch analog cameras and IP video encoders and decoders to keep a close watch over the facility’s 40 acres in Studio City, California.
More than 150 Bosch AutoDome and Dinion cameras capture video of the 18 sound stages, three permanent outdoor sets, 213 star dressing rooms and 180,000 square feet of production office space at the facility. To meet CBS Studio Center’s demanding requirements for image quality, the cameras stream high resolution video to Bosch VideoJet 8008 multi-channel encoders, which convert multiple analog camera signals into digital format and transmit them across CBS Studio Center’s network. Seeing
in a New Light: SAGE
at the
American Music Theatre
The American Music Theatre realized the growing potential for projection technology and came to SAGE to see its needs filled. The theatre needed to put out everything from high-definition backdrops to glow-free blackouts, and to overcome the ambient stage lighting and effects already in place. SAGE worked closely with the stage personnel to tackle the challenge. A 12,000-lumen Sanyo PLC XF-46N projector, suspended by a robust Chief ceiling mount, provided a state-of-the-art solution. SAGE installed DMX MKII Flapper technology to control blackout and even Projector Protector to extend the assembly's active life.

A pullout keyboard tray on robust ball bearing slides comes standard.
The WSV-50's integral vented equipment cabinet has a locking door and front access panel. It may be fitted with either a 16 space rack mount or adjustable shelves. The cabinet work surface forms an ideal platform for document cameras, projectors, and other presentation equipment. Leveling glides are included.
Construction is of oak-veneered MDF available in several colors: natural oak, dark oak, dark cherry stained oak, or black lacquer. Work surfaces are finished in Nevamar® Charcoal Matrix HPL with protective ARP finish for maximum wear resistance.
